Israel (you know, that little country its so fashionable to hate and bitch about these days) received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film for Waltz With Bashire
I am fairly certain I heard at least one loud BOO from the press gallery when the nomination, “Waltz from Bashire, ISRAEL” was announced this morning in LA.
It’s been quite a ride for writer-director Ari Folman’s animated documentary. It started with an enthusiastic reception for the unique film at Cannes. The film has since landed on many Top 10 lists and won several accolades, including six awards from the Israeli Film Academy, one being best picture; foreign-language film at the British Independent Film Awards; and animated film from the Los Angeles Film Critics’ Association.
It recently won a Golden Globe for best foreign-language film.
Its now off to the Academy Awards in Hollywood for the Israeli born filmmaker. Can the protesters be far behind?
