Toronto Mayor David Miller in LA trying to bring Hollywood back to Canada

LOS ANGELES (HoundsTV) Jan 21, 2009 – Toronto Mayor David Miller was in Los Angeles for a few days trying to woo major studios back to Toronto to film – and he came to LA armed with some sweet financial incentives. Hollywood producers would be charged just 78 cents for every Canadian dollar they spend in the city. As well as the new financial incentives Mayor Miller is making sure everybody knows about the new Filmport mega-studio currently being constructed near Toronto’s waterfront.
Toronto has lost a ton of studio production over the last few years – as the Canadian dollar strengthened and other cities started to offer better deals. Miller was touring LA meeting with various executives and putting a special emphasis on reaching out to fellow Canadian actors about talking up the merits of filming in Toronto.
It was for that reason and more the Mayor turned up at an ACTRA tribute to Ottawa-born Sandra Oh at the Canadian Consulate’s Los Angeles residence. Mayor Miller stressed the importance of bringing Canadian talent and film business back to Canada and urged the talent living in LA to support Toronto. “Toronto needs your support” urged Miller.
Miller talked to HoundsTV and mentioned being enormously proud of all the successful Canadians living and working in California. “Canadian actors in LA are our Ambassadors” mused Miller. But he also stressed, “We want you back. Use your talent in Toronto.”

I’m a proud citizen of Toronto and spend all my money here. Wish I could get the 78 cents deal for every dollar I spend in the city?
