HoundsTV: Toronto's Starz Animation and Elton John get 23 million dollar Ontario Government handout to make toons
TORONTO (HoundsTV) May 26, 2009
– In Toronto for the first of two highly-anticipated concerts with Billy Joel – Elton John found time to stop by STARZ Animation studios and greet Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

The occasion was to announce to the large gathering of entertainment news media (each of which was announcing they had they own “exclusive” interview with Sir Elton) that Starz Animation had managed to squeeze a cool 23 million bucks out of McGuinty’s Ontario government and one of the first animation projects Starz will tackle is a toon from Elton John and David Furnish’s Rocket Pictures’ – Gnomeo & Juliet.

Good thing Premier McGuinty is an Elton fan and did mention to HoundsTV cameras on his way into the event his favorite Elton song is “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” (though, he politely declined to sing a few bars.)

While Elton and the Starz crew were certainly in the taking mood today – unfortunately, they didn’t seem much in the giving mood – with media accreditation for HoundsTV to the press conference or with Elton giving autographs to the few collectors that were waiting outside the event.

On arrival, Elton took one look at the small group of autograph collectors assembled and mumbled, “Nope! Your ebay guys.” – and quickly made his way into the Richmond St. Toronto studio.

UPDATE: It seems Sir Elton did have a little “give” in him today – and signed at least one autograph.

  1. Joe says:

Would you have been so callous if they granted your admission to the event?

    TMZ wannabe’s much??

  2. Ann L says:

Starz doesn’t deserve the money… they treat people like shit.

  3. Mark says:

Why do you say they treat people poorly?

  4. Liz C. says:

They expect you to work a 48 hour work week for the price of 40 hours. They work you hard and then lay you off when a production ends. Rather than hire you back when another production starts, they hire someone cheaper. The place is a sweatshop.

Got something to add to the story?
