Ghostbusters 3 coming soon? Dan Aykroyd and dad Peter on A History of Ghosts book tour

(HoundsTV) Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd accompanied his father Peter for a day of press in Toronto to chat up the elder Aykroyd’s new book, A History of Ghosts.

The Aykroyd family has long been interested in real-life stories of the occult – they would provide the eventual inspiration for Dan to write Ghostbusters, one of the eighties biggest hits.

As for the chances of seeing a Ghostbusters 3 anytime soon? We’ve been hearing for years another sequel to the cult franchise was in the works. At a signing this week for Peter’s new book in Toronto, Dan said they are certainly trying to get another sequel going, they have a script – just no studio to greenlight what would surely be a hundred million dollar plus budget. Aykroyd feels the current economic climate and recession that has frozen a lot of Hollywood production is a factor in not yet securing that coveted production number and studio go.

But Aykroyd is on board. Ivan Reitman recently said he would be back as either director or producer.

But what about Bob? That is, could Bill Murray be convinced to reprise his role as Dr Peter Venkman. Murray recently gave mixed signals on whether he would be back for more slime, citing “there is no script yet.”

Have Murray and Aykroyd not spoken much lately? Either way, It hasn’t stopped this IMDB listing for a third sequel from appearing.
