Hundreds of fans turned out to Indigo Books in downtown Toronto where country music icon, Shania Twain, made a rare in-person appearance. Shania was there to sign copies of her just published memoir, “From This Moment On.”

It’s been a roller-coaster few years for the otherwise publicity-shy Shania. In 2008, her marriage to music producer Robert “Mutt” Lange broke down, when it was revealed that he’d been having an affair with their property manager and Shania’s best friend, Marie Anne Thiebaud. To add to the media fuel that had infringed on her personal life, Shania married Frédéric Thiébaud on Janurary 1, 2011, the former husband of Marie Anne.

In the emotionally charged autobiography, Shania recalls the struggles of her younger years, living in poverty and growing up in a domestically abusive household, and the maternal care of her four younger siblings she took on when her parents were tragically killed in a car crash. She reveals intimate details of her life as she dealt with her first divorce, and the loss of her best friend, but most of all she walks us through the inspiring and empowering tale of her climb toward fame and her successful multifaceted career.

Today, Twain and Thiébaud spend most of the year at their mountainside Switzerland estate, which the couple recently converted into a horse ranch, from a 20th century mill. There, according to friends, the couple and Shania’s son Eja feel tranquil, and completely removed from the world.

In her first interview about the book with Oprah, Shania said, “Every step has had its own level of anxiety attached. The relief comes because I’m now in the interaction with the fans and the public and sensing their connection to the book, and I’m just sensing a community spirit. We’re all in this together,” she adds. “I’m sure many people have experienced these things and I’m hoping that they relate, and benefit.”

One special time is certainly in Cleveland during 1997. When we heard that Ali was going to be the featured autograph guest at The National, we got the HoundsTVmobile going and made the journey to Cleveland for America’s biggest memorabilia show of the year.

HoundsTV had to get up pretty early in the morning to catch up with the Big Bang Theory’s breakout star, and recent Emmy winner Jim Parsons. Parsons, along with co-stars Simon Helberg (Howard) and Kunal Nayyar (Raj) were making the first stop of many media engagements at a local radio station.

HoundsTV was able to catch up to Clint Eastwood on his arrival into the city the day before. Leaving the private airfield, Mr Eastwood was very kind to stop and beautifully autograph this 26″ x 38″ movie poster of “Dirty Harry” [ $995.00 CAN ] – one of Clint’s most famous roles. While McCartney’s last concert in Montreal was in 1989, many did make the journey to Quebec City during the summer of 2008 when Paul played a historic concert in celebration of Quebec’s 400th anniversary. Over a quarter million people saw Paul play that day and HoundsTV was there when McCartney left the hotel.

We were there again as McCartney arrived into Montreal, Canada in the early afternoon during the day of the Bell Centre show this past week. Back in 1997 Canada Post issued a set of stamps to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1972 Summit Series which pitted Canada vs. Russia and involved the very best players in world of hockey. The “Series of the Century” was famously won when Canada’s Paul Henderson scored the winning goal in the final game.

It’s good to see Formula 1 racing back again at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Canada. When F1 suddenly departed the famous Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Montreal Ile Notre-Dame after the 2008 Grand Prix – many thought F1 racing was finished in Canada for good. But it has made a triumphant return for 2010.

I really have enjoyed the times I’ve managed to catch up to, and collect a signature from Sir Paul McCartney. You really can’t get much bigger than a Beatle.

It’s always sad to see the acting legends fall. Hollywood hasn’t got too many legends left standing, and certainly doesn’t seem to be replacing them. I’m talking about the icons – the acting chameleons that could almost morph into any role.

Dennis Hopper was such an actor.

Hopper will be forever identified with many of the cult classics of the late sixties & seventies. The Trip, Easy Rider, Mad Dog Morgan, & Apocalypse Now to name just a few. Hopper came to age as an actor at the time when an independent spirit and rebel filmmaking attitude was sweeping over Hollywood. Hopper had the perfect kind of “crazy” for that.

For me, It wasn’t till the early nineties that I began to really appreciate much of Hopper’s work. I will always remember the scene in True Romance when he squared off against Christopher Walken as my beginning in the appreciation of the late great Dennis Hopper.

It would be almost a decade later when I got to meet the man in-person. It was summer 2001 and Hopper was in Toronto filming the movie Knockaround Guys. I was just beginning to tail the autograph hounds in my quest to gain their trust and agreement in a documentary series I would eventually produce. (It would be a few years later when Hounds would finally premiere on Canadian TV.)
