Bieber was spotted by fans enjoying ice-cream with his bodyguard in the Yonge Dundas area. They tried moving quickly through the building crowd that started to follow them. Justin and crew, who have gotten used to escaping mobs of teenage girls – quickly found entry to the Eaton Centre underground parking and disappeared.

It was Paul’s first trip back to Toronto in five years and the Sunday night concert was only Macca’s 10th show in Canada as a solo artist since 1976.

And that anticipation was met as a rash of autograph collectors and their crews descended upon Toronto all in hopes of achieving that coveted Sir Paul signature. Unknown to most, McCartney actually arrived in the city late Saturday afternoon and rehearsed at a venue close to the ACC. While McCartney was pleasant with a smile and wave to the few collectors present at this practice venue – he didn’t sign any autographs on the way in or out.

When McCartney arrived back to his Toronto hotel after the first show – There was just too many people for Macca’s people to even consider him signing.

It would turn out that McCartney would only sign once for the hounds on that trip to Toronto, and that’s just before Paul exited the city at the private airfield after the second show. While close to 100 collectors raced to meet Macca, he ended up signing for just over a quarter of them – and they were some very nice signatures indeed.

And I and some helpers were fortunate to get some nice items signed. Like this Capitol Records issue of the Beatles, RUBBER SOUL. While this album shows some wear it is considered one of the most critically acclaimed releases in the Beatles discography. Paul McCartney beautifully signed the album cover in black sharpie after the show in Toronto.

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler has been on a book tour of late promoting his just released autobiography “My Appetite for Destruction: Sex & Drugs”

And it’s quite the story. Adler chronicles, in sometimes shocking detail, how he came to help form Guns N’ Roses which as a band went onto record one of the biggest and most memorable debut records in music history. And then Adler throws the fame and money away in a decent of serious drug abuse.

The book is worth a read for just some of the stories and observations Adler has for rock icons Steven Tyler, Slash, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, and of course some great stories about the one-and-only Gn’R lead singer Axl Rose and his unique ways.

While McCartney’s last concert in Montreal was in 1989, many did make the journey to Quebec City during the summer of 2008 when Paul played a historic concert in celebration of Quebec’s 400th anniversary. Over a quarter million people saw Paul play that day and HoundsTV was there when McCartney left the hotel.

We were there again as McCartney arrived into Montreal, Canada in the early afternoon during the day of the Bell Centre show this past week. (June 19, 2010) Miley Cyrus in rehearsal for co-hosting MMVA’s in Toronto. Miley will also perform “Party in the USA” and “Can’t Be Tamed” at the annual awards show on Queen St.

(HoundsTV – Toronto) The NXNE music and film festival kicked off across Toronto on Wednesday at various opening night venues. HoundsTV decided to take in the Virgin Mobile Opening Night at The Phoenix with the great band Eagles Of Death Metal headlining.

Frontman Jesse Hughes was in top spirits even though the band had suffered a personal crisis this week. EODM bassist Brian O’Connor had been diagnosed with cancer, and was undergoing surgery in Los Angles the same day as the NXNE gig. Dean Fertita from Dead Weather is filling in for O’Connor on the remaining Eagles tour dates.

“The Pigeons Of Shit Metal” – Axl Rose

HoundsTV was reminded of a great rock n’ roll tattoo story at The Phoenix and it involved EODM’s Jesse Hughes and Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose. Eagles Of Death Metal were offered the opening slot on Guns N’ Roses brief 2006 World Tour. It seems, EODM were not well received in their first show opening for Gn’R – a large portion of the audience actually booed them. Maybe with a band name that ends in “Death Metal,” the Guns crowd was expecting something different (EODM are not a death-metal band, they are just a great hard rockin’ band formed in the nineties with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age / Them Crooked Vultures.)

Not happy hearing his audience was booing, Axl Rose takes the stage for his Gn’R set and asks, “so what did you all think of The Pigeons of Shit Metal.” ?

Eagles Of Death Metal would not play another show opening for Guns N’ Roses again. The bands would also exchange some not-so-nice words with each other. But Jesse Hughes eventually showed how he felt about the Axl slight when he had a “Pigeons Of Shit Metal” tattoo added to his left arm.

You have hand it to the Rolling Stones. Besides the enormous output of quality tunes over decades of their existence. The Stones has proven they know how to make a lot of money and exceptionally manage their brand.

It started in the eighties when the Stones hooked up with concert promoter Michael Cohl and forever changed the business of concert touring. It was The Rolling Stones who figured out working and living in countries other than England would give the band much better tax breaks. Coincidentally, a lesson first learned while fleeing England for France to begin the recording of Exile On Main St. Canada has been another country benefiting from The Rolling Stones using it as a preferred destination to rehearse for upcoming concert tours.

But the Rolling Stones recently found a new way to rake in bundles of dough. And that’s with the reissue of their seminal seventies masterpiece record – Exile On Main Street.

With more than 100,000 units moved during it’s first week of sales during late May, 2010 – The Rolling Stones became the first band to have a studio album re-enter the charts at #1. (Exile also debuted at #1 on the record charts upon it’s initial release in 1972.)

Of course, it helped the band stumbled upon a lot of unused material from the original Exile recording sessions in France and U.S. Songs, as guitarist Keith Richards recently talked about, the band was so wasted they just ‘kinda forgot about’ at the time.

But the Rolling Stones don’t drop just a simple new reissue CD. They understand in these days of digital downloading the band wants to see maximum revenue for it’s brand realized. The Stones want more than just .99 cents a song (but they’ll be happy to take that too.)

I really have enjoyed the times I’ve managed to catch up to, and collect a signature from Sir Paul McCartney. You really can’t get much bigger than a Beatle.

From my very first time hounding McCartney in Toronto in 2002, I have traveled to a few places in the world to see Sir Paul. You don’t always get lucky. Many nights McCartney is just not in the mood for signing autographs. And he is signing less and less Beatles memorabilia each year.

But then there are the good days when McCartney enjoys greeting fans and signing a few autographs while out on tour.

Such was the case when Paul McCartney stopped to sign this original album cover of Abbey Road [$1,750] Paul autographed this album after a concert at Dallas Cowboys stadium during August, 2009 in Texas. Also note this was one of those rare times when McCartney signed his full name, “Paul McCartney”

It’s always sad to see the acting legends fall. Hollywood hasn’t got too many legends left standing, and certainly doesn’t seem to be replacing them. I’m talking about the icons – the acting chameleons that could almost morph into any role.

Dennis Hopper was such an actor.

Hopper will be forever identified with many of the cult classics of the late sixties & seventies. The Trip, Easy Rider, Mad Dog Morgan, & Apocalypse Now to name just a few. Hopper came to age as an actor at the time when an independent spirit and rebel filmmaking attitude was sweeping over Hollywood. Hopper had the perfect kind of “crazy” for that.

For me, It wasn’t till the early nineties that I began to really appreciate much of Hopper’s work. I will always remember the scene in True Romance when he squared off against Christopher Walken as my beginning in the appreciation of the late great Dennis Hopper.

It would be almost a decade later when I got to meet the man in-person. It was summer 2001 and Hopper was in Toronto filming the movie Knockaround Guys. I was just beginning to tail the autograph hounds in my quest to gain their trust and agreement in a documentary series I would eventually produce. (It would be a few years later when Hounds would finally premiere on Canadian TV.)
