(HoundsTV – Toronto) Fresh from opening the World Series in New York with a performance with Alicia Keys, hip-hop icon Jay-Z has taken Canada by storm. Jay is doing a 4-show 4-night tour through the major Canadian cities of Montreal, London, Toronto, and Ottawa – and Hova is doing a lot of talking to press. After the Montreal press conference show , Jay-Z travelled to Toronto and made an in-studio television appearance on Muchmusic’s MOD before visiting the studios of Flow 93.5 radio. It was then on to Air Canada Centre where Jay rocked a near-capacity house.

Bruce Springsteen and his E Street band recently hit Toronto, Canada on their current tour and if anybody should wonder the lengths a fan would have to go to get Springsteen’s autograph please read on…

We all know how touchy Springsteen gets with the sale of his concert tickets – you can only imagine how much he hates the thought of his signature being sold. Because of that, Springsteen does not often sign autographs, rarely in large crowds, usually personalizes, and when he chooses to sign – he tries to make damn sure he is not signing for collectors that might go on to sell his autograph.

Since the BOSS was arriving just hours before the Toronto Air Canada Centre concert – and was heading straight back to the airfield immediately following the show – the opportunities for fan interaction on this trip was going to be next to nil. The only real shot would be at a remote private airfield just north of Toronto where Bruce and the band was set to land just a few hours before the ACC show.

So our dedicated autograph collector and a few friends, aware of the place where Springsteen was set to arrive, headed out to the airport in the hopes of getting a few albums signed.

The smallish plane arrives and Springsteen is first off and sits in the front passenger seat of a car as the rest of his seven vehicle entourage get ready to make the thirty minute drive to the Air Canada Centre. As Springsteen waits in the idling car, it is then our small group of collectors approach – people in the same car as Bruce are quick to shout, “no autographs. no signing.”

But Springsteen rolls the car window down and mutters a “oh, you found me” and motions to the small gaggle of people to come over to his window where he preceded to sign a strict one autograph per person.

One female fan, clutching tightly her just signed Darkness on the Edge of Town album, couldn’t also resist asking Springsteen if he had any extra tickets to tonight’s sold-out show – Springsteen, not missing a beat replied, “what do you think, I carry them in my back pocket?”

The window rolled back up and the Springsteen-led line of cars and vans headed to the Toronto venue for the show.

Now, you might have expected a front cover Britney photo in the Toronto dailies come Thursday. But on that day all the papers ran very little coverage of Spears – and NO photos from the Toronto show.

Was the Spears story not big news in Toronto? Had newspapers cut back staff so severely there was nobody left to cover the show? No. And No.

HoundsTV spoke to sources at The Toronto Sun who said they certainly had plans to make Britney a cover story come Thursday – but “ridiculous demands” by the Spears camp towards the mainstream media on what could be done with the photos had every Canadian news outlet and agency saying NO THANKS. So Spears concert reviews ran in The Toronto Sun and Toronto Star print editions with no photos and the papers used old file shots for their Britney reviews on their websites.

What demands by the Spears camp could have pissed the papers off so much as to not send photographers to such a visual feast? After all, the editors know their papers readers don’t want to just read about Britney – they want to SEE Britney.

Its usually when the “journalistic integrity” of the papers gets a little threatened when the editors cry foul. Perhaps the Spears camp were demanding news photographer shots MUST run on the front page the next day. Quite possibly – the pictures captured by the photographers are said to be “For one-time use only. No re-use.” – which basically means the news editors can review the show and run a photo the next day. But the next time Britney does something dumb and is in the news (yeah… like what are the chances of that???) – the papers couldn’t run another shot from the concert to accompany that story.

Whatever the demands exactly were. The news editors didn’t like it and with the struggles of the paparazzi on the other side – it was suddenly very tough to get a good shot of one of the world’s most photographed woman.

Of course, come the next night in Montreal when some club paid the right price – all of a sudden Britney was in a mood to be snapped.

We’re not sure Spears will actually get to see much of the city anyway. As for autograph stories – don’t expect any of those either. Spears has been been one of the worst signers for many years now.
